March 2006 - A Multi-Client Study
Boom or Bust?  Commodity Price Inflation and its Impacts on North American Agricultural Competitiveness

It is my sincere pleasure to make you aware of a very important multi-client study being launched by Informa Economics, Inc. regarding the myriad factors that are redefining today's global agriculture and food sectors.  This study is a companion study to one performed by our company in the mid 1990’s assessing the forces then driving the global and North American sector toward “boom or bust.”  That comprehensive study was the single most subscribed multi-client study in our firm’s history.  It served formally and formidably to set the stage for 5, 10 and 15 years of strategic planning for study participants.

Today, a new structure of economic interrelationships, geopolitical influences and social factors are imposing enormous, fast-moving fundamental changes on agriculture around the globe.  Once again, the question for the future is "boom or bust" and the need to reassess the strategic environment for all firms, policymakers and institutions in our industry has never been greater.  The 2006 study will once again assess and evaluate the complex and integrated forces that are continuing to alter the way our industry behaves and performs.  It will ultimately provide ideas and direction for effective, forward-looking strategies.

We have developed a most comprehensive prospectus for the study (please read the pdf document below), so I will not reiterate the “substance” of Informa’s logic, analytic concepts and justification for your organization’s participation in the study in this cover letter.  Nonetheless, I hope you will take the time to read our proposal and to join us in this “foundational” research and strategic planning exercise.  I am, of course, available to answer any questions you may have about the study.  Thank you for your time and attention and I extend best personal regards.

Sincerely,

Bruce Scherr
